Scum

The sun went up across the blooded field and the carrion birds have risen in the air again. Yet another night has passed, yet another battle has been won. More blood. More death. More gold. The night had drained them, but still they worked hard burying their dead. The chill of dawn upon their skins, they would not rest until last of them lay peacefully. Nobody leaves a brother behind. It was the code.

As the sun was high, the camp was moved again. And Black got lost in her thoughts again. How long can they keep doing this? How long shall they fight for others? For a fistful of gold? A bit of fame? She could not shake those thoughts. These days they were not known as The Crows anymore, their way of fighting made sure of that. They called them scum. But she knew that every dishonest attack meant more lives saved for her skirmishers. And to her they were brothers and sisters.
